Tiffany & Co. continues to anchor its legendary status in the history of the US Open as the official creator of the tournament’s trophies since 1987. Handcrafted in their Rhode Island workshops, these sterling silver trophies speak volumes about Tiffany & Co.’s expertise. This year, before the prize ceremony, a Tiffany & Co. display adorned center court, celebrating all of the US Open’s trophies for the first time. After their victory, Aryna Sabalenka and Jannik Sinner left with their trophies engraved live, continuing the tradition of excellence.
For over three decades, Tiffany & Co. has been at the heart of one of the world’s most prestigious sporting events: the US Open. As the official creator of trophies, the luxury house headquartered in New York City has never ceased to elevate the art of victory. In 2024, this partnership is strengthened through exceptional pieces presented to this year’s champions: Aryna Sabalenka and Jannik Sinner, the women’s and men’s singles winners.
A partnership that game, set and matches
Tiffany & Co. made history at the US Open in 1987, when it was first commissioned to design and manufacture the tournament’s iconic trophies. A tradition for the luxury house, which for over 160 years has been creating prestigious objects for the world’s greatest events. These trophies are awarded annually by the American Tennis Association.
While handcrafting at the goldsmith’s workshop in Cumberland, Rhode Island, artisans use techniques handed down from generation to generation, including hand-spinning, goldsmithing, casting and engraving. Each trophy is crafted in sterling silver, a noble material that reflects the purity and durability of sporting achievement. The creation requires over four months of intense work which is proof of the dedication and passion behind each hammer blow. This year, Tiffany & Co. set up an interesting display of all the US Open trophies on a main court to attract visitors.
Live Engraving
In 2024, Tiffany & Co. repeated a tradition started the previous year: the hand engraving of trophies directly on the court, just after the end of the finals. This initiative allowed the champions, Sabalenka and Sinner, to leave Arthur Ashe Stadium with their trophies engraved with their names, victory in hand.
Tiffany & Co. is deeply rooted in the world of sport and culture, already making trophies for other leagues and competitions including the Super Bowl, the NBA and Major League Baseball. Each Tiffany trophy is designed to embody athletes’ competitive spirit and perseverance! A great source of inspiration for future players…
